About the Event
The discussion with Ms. Wörsdörfer on the topic “The Future of Energy Innovation” will be in response to the IEA’s July reports calling for more change within the global generation mix as well as international tensions over emissions mitigation agreements. Since one of UNA-YP’s core objectives is providing “a national landscape for the discussion of international issues relevant to youth”, and given climate change heavily affecting the current youth’s present and future, hosting a discussion featuring an expert who has years of experience within the field of discussion will without a doubt lead to an invaluable conversation that will not only shed light on the specific issues facing renewable energy ,and energy innovation as a whole, but will also help re-affirm this core objective; in doing so, the UNA-YP will open itself to more opportunities from other renewable energy and climate change experts while also granting the platform more credibility as a legitimate forum for vital discussion.
Ms. Wörsdörfer is the current Director of Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks at the International Energy Agency. On the 9th of July, IEA hosted the “Clean Energy Transitions Summit” and published the “Clean Energy Innovation Special Report” a few days prior to the summit. Prior to joining the IEA, Ms Wörsdörfer served as a Director in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy, in charge of renewables, research and innovation, and energy efficiency. She was an active participant in the Governing Board of the IEA representing the European Union. From 2014 to 2017, Ms Wörsdörfer was the Director for Energy Policy of DG Energy in the EC, where she headed the adoption of the energy and climate policy 2030 framework, as agreed by EU Heads of States and Governments in 2014. Before this she spent three years as Head of Unit in DG Energy working with Energy Policy and Monitoring of Electricity, Gas, Coal and Oil Markets. She also worked for four years in the cabinet of Commissioner Erkki Liikanen on competitiveness issues, digital economy and international relations.
